What to Take on a Caravan Holiday

Right now at Lowdhams, your favourite motorhome and caravan dealer, there are plenty of accessories to help make your weekend breaks and longer holidays go with a convenient swing. Items designed to make everything that little bit easier. In this edition of our blog, we’ll take a look at what to take on a caravan holiday, that are absolute essentials.

A Couple of Caravan and Motorhome Holiday Essentials

1. Wheelclamp

Theft is a problem some of us must, unfortunately, face in our lives – and it has various consequences. The sense of violation resulting from being a victim of it can be devastating, and that’s in addition to the practical effects a theft will have. Reporting to the authorities (if it is a large-scale theft such as a caravan or motorhome), chasing the insurance, dealing with paperwork etc – as well as the practical inconvenience. In addition, if it does happen to be a leisure vehicle that is stolen then all of the contents will have gone too!

That’s why it’s important to take the right steps to ensure you’re protected against theft, as much as you can be. Securing the wheels of your caravan or motorhome is a fantastic idea, and offers a level of physical security as well as a strong visual deterrent. It’s a strong step you can take which will mitigate against the theft issue. The Milenco Motorhome Wheelclamp comes in two wheel sizes (for 15-inch and 16-inch wheel rims) and is easy to fit. You’ll be more secure in no time!

2. Sat Nav

Getting from A to B is not always quite as simple as you might think. Sometimes you need a little bit of assistance. In ye olden days you’d have to ring up the Navigator Hire Agency and hand over some cash to employ the services of a navigator to sit next to you during the journey and read maps to get directions (or ask your passenger to do it for you). These days things are so much more convenient – you can use a sat nav. These satellite navigation systems use a bit of technical magic to work out your best route, by bouncing your position around the stars and beaming back relevant info (such as road closures, etc).

The Avtex Tourer Three Plus is a sat nav with built-in 1080 HD dash cam (dashboard camera). A range of extra features make travelling even more of a streamlined convenience: Voice Assist, so you can keep your hands on the wheel and command the sat nav be speaking to it; Trendy Places, which offers suggestions of beauty spots and scenic routes; and BirdsEye, which offers high definition satellite imagery to help you plan your arrival. The Tourer Three Plus also features a 7-inch touchscreen and access to the Caravan and Motorhome Club campsite database. It’s the perfect travel companion – quiet and helpful!

Other Accessories You Should Take On Holiday

Caravan Levels

These are ideal to take with you in case you are going to park up on ground or surfaces which are uneven. By using them you will be able to keep your caravan or motorhome level. No more peas rolling off your plate!

Fire Extinguisher

Always wise to have this kind of protection in your vehicle and keep yourself and your passengers safe. It won’t prevent a fire, of course, but a fire extinguisher will either put one out or buy you valuable time.

Steering Wheel Lock

This is a way to add further layers of protection to your motorhome (or the vehicle towing your caravan). Using a steering wheel lock will secure the wheel so it cannot be turned. In effect it renders the vehicle undrivable until you unlock it with a key (which you will keep on you when away from the vehicle).

As well as those mentioned here in this blog, if you browse our website you will be able to explore our 50 most popular caravan and motorhome accessories. You’ll find many more items which you can use to make your trips easier to manage. Not everything is about convenience though – some things are about comfort, so you’ll find plenty of entertainment options alongside more practical items. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at Lowdhams, your local caravan dealer in Nottingham.
