Why the Airstream Bambi Is the Perfect Small Tourer

If you follow our blog, you’ll know by now that the Airstream is the perfect slice of on-the-road Americana. This range of premium-quality leisure vehicles has become truly iconic over the decades. In many ways this design classic is what you will picture when you sit back and imagine the perfect mobile home. Whether you think of the larger Tourer range, the smaller Bambi range or the compact and streamlined Basecamp, the chrome look, and distinctive styling will sing out about the Airstream lifestyle option of class and quality.

In this edition of our blog we’re going to focus on the ‘middle’ Airstream. The Airstream Bambi. We’ll look at why you might pick this particular range when you’re on the lookout for something special – and we’ll dig in to the things that make the Bambi so special.

What actually is the Bambi?

It’s a small and lightweight 2-4 berth travel trailer – a caravan, essentially – designed by Airstream to suit those people who require a more modest but perfectly put-together amount of space. There are currently four stunning models available in the instantly recognisable and hugely appealing Bambi range.

It’s not just about looks and vibe, though. The practicalities of the Bambi are important to its appeal, too. In terms of towing it’s a big win for little effort, as it’s relatively light so should be manageable by your vehicle even if it’s a modestly powered one. The Bambi is also easy to manoeuvre and simple to park in smaller spots.

What are the exterior and interior of a Bambi like?

On the outside, a storage locker offers space for you to keep your chairs, bags and sundry items, and there is a pull-out awning to put them beneath, offering you the opportunity to chill in a shady space right outside the door. There’s even an outdoor shower so you can get cleaned up after days exploring, without messing up the interior. In terms of overall shape, each of the four models in the Bambi range features the manufacturer’s signature curved aluminium aesthetic – so you can rest assured that whichever you choose the all-important Airstream ‘wow factor’ is present and correct.

In common with all other Airstreams, the interior of a Bambi is as impressive as the exterior.

In all four models of the Bambi you’ll find plenty to keep you satisfied in terms of layout, too. The social space in the Bambi allows you to relax in a fantastic environment, with your comfort central to the design rather than an afterthought. There’s no feeling of compromise, here. The dinette can seat four people comfortably and, conveniently, will also convert into an extra sleeping space.

You’ll also find a spacious bathroom, captivating panoramic windows (depending on the view where you are parked up, of course), plus aluminium blinds and blackout curtains.

There are also great necessary appliances such as a gas stove and refrigerator, and social / tech features such as USB charging ports and a stereo with Bluetooth connectivity. Overhead storage options mean plenty of places to keep all of the bits and pieces you’ve brought from home neat and tidy.

Is an Airstream Bambi worth it?

In common with all Airstreams, the Bambi will probably cost you more than if you opted for various other types of leisure vehicle. This is partly due to the fact that these beauties are manufactured in the good ol’ US of A rather than right on our own doorstep. But it’s also down in part to the absolute top end quality of what you’re buying. An Airstream really is the king of the road!

So, the question of whether an Airstream is worth it or not can be answered from two perspectives.

There’s the absolute unimpeachable truth that from the perspective of design and manufacturing excellence which has gone into each and every hand-made build then, yes, it’s worth it. You are buying a slice of carefully crafted design and engineering, something that. Many people have put a lot of time, thoughts, effort and love into. The other perspective is the purely subjective one. How much do you love your Airstream? It’s likely that you’ll love it a lot – and so who could ever argue that buying it was not worth it?

Here at Lowdhams, we are exceptionally proud to be the UK’s only officially licensed dealer of Airstream caravans. We stock the Tourer, Basecamp and – of course – Bambi ranges. As we’ve discussed in this article, that’s the one to go for if you’re looking for a great home from home living space that’s easy to tow!
